Oh how I love good champagne. It's my weakness, well that and scarves. Every Christmas for the past 9 years, my mom has gifted me bottle of Veuve Clicoquot. At this point the new years wouldn't seem right without it.
If you are like most and decide to enjoy a little bubbly to ring in the new year, then here are a few tidbits so you can know your stuff.
Not all sparkling wine is Champagne, but all Champagne is sparkling wine.
- Champagne is from the Champagne regions of France
- Sparkling wine is typically from other regions in France, Italy, Spain or the USA
There are two different Champagne styles.
- Non Vintage (NV): No vintage label; blend of grapes of different years
- Vintage: Same year for all grapes used
Dryness and sweetness levels are on the label, you just have to know what they mean.
- Brut Zero: Bone Dry
- Brut: Dry
- Extra Dry: Off-Dry
- Sec: Semi-Sweet
- Demi Sec: Sweet
- Doux: Very Sweet
How do you usually ring in the new year? Any drink traditions or cocktail must haves?
No matter what you are drinking tonight, hopefully you send out 2013 on a high note....have fun & be safe!
